A small Apulian red-figure lekythos of the Xenon ware type. The vessel has a wide flat rim, a single handle extending from the middle of the neck to the shoulders and stands on a flat base with a small ring foot. The body has a rich black glaze, decorated on one side with a duck.

 

Greek colonies of southern Italy, Apulia: Circa 4th-3rd century BC.

 

Condition: Complete and intact; the surface pock-marked in places but in fine condition generally. Height 10.1 cms (4 ins)

 

Provenance: Kurt Schmid, Basel, Switzerland, collected between 1950s - 1970s.
