A Daunian cream terracotta juglet with high handle extending above the rim to the shoulders. The handle and body have attractive painted decoration in black and umber pigments. The vessel stands on a flat base.

Southern Italy: Circa 550-400 BC.


Complete and intact; a surface chip to upper body.

Height 11 cms (4.3 ins).


The Daunians were a tribe inhabiting northern Apulia in classical antiquity. They lived in the eponymous region Daunia, which is mostly coincident with the Province of Foggia today.
