A Daunian cream terracotta juglet with grooved high handle extending above the rim to the shoulders. The vessel is decorated with bands of painted decoration in black pigments. The vessel stands on a flat base.
Southern Italy: Circa 550-400 BC.
Complete and intact; the painted decoration eroded in places and with several minor chips to the rim.
Height 11.3 cms (4.4 ins).
The Daunians were a tribe inhabiting northern Apulia in classical antiquity. They lived in the eponymous region Daunia, which is mostly coincident with the Province of Foggia today.
