A blue glass pendant with suspension loop. The disc stamped in relief with a lion walking right, crescent and star symbols above. Reverse plain.

Eastern Roman empire: Circa 4th-5th century AD.

 

Very Fine condition with attractive iridescence.

Height including loop 26.5 mms (1 inch)

David Whitehouse comments that such items had a variety of functions; some were worn to bring good fortune or to ward off evil, others were issued as tokens or weights issued in the name of the governor of Constantinople.
