Supplied attached to a marble display base.
Ancient Near East Chalcolithic, probably Central or Southeastern Anatolia: Circa 6000-4500 BC.
Fine condition: complete and intact, the surface eroded and irregular in places, but good solid fabric.
Height: 11 cms (4.3 ins)
Provenance: Ex Eftis Paraskevaides collection 1990's.
The figure represents a female fertility or domestic protective figure. Likely a household cult object, not a temple piece. The simple, abstract form reflects early experimentation with symbolic rather than naturalistic human representation.
Such figures are sometimes classified as "mother goddess" types, but in reality, were more likely linked to domestic ritual or fertility symbolism.
