A glazed stoneware jar of globular form with thick rolled rim, featuring ornate ring handles. Decorated with deep incised bands around the body with a thin combed band of waves around the shoulder. Covered in a thin pinkish brown glaze.
Chinese Eastern Han dynasty: Circa 25 to 220 AD.
Condition: In good overall condition, small fault around the ring handle during manufacture, possible loss to scroll work above handle. No signs of repair or restoration.
Width: including handles 23cms (9 ins).
Height: 16.5 cms (6.5 ins).
Provenance: Ex collection of the late Phillip Allen (1938-2022), a council member of the Oriental Ceramic Society.
