Egyptian Late Period to Ptolemaic Period: Circa 664-30 BC.
Condition: Complete and intact with good strong glaze; a few light accretions.
Height 21 mms (0.8 ins).
Provenance: Ex London gallery; previously in a 1930's Home counties UK collection.
Reference: See item 25a and page 28; Carol Andrews' Amulets of Ancient Egypt (London 1994).
Similar falcon amulets are common in the Late Period and were deposited as votive offerings or worn for protection. In this context, the falcon generally symbolized Horus, who was associated with divine protection, kingship, and victory over hostile forces.
