A small blue glazed faience amulet of the god, Thoth with the head of an ibis. The god is shown striding forward, hands to his sides and standing on an oblong base, a piercing towards the top of the back pillar for suspension. Supplied with acrylic display stand.
Egyptian Late Dynastic-Ptolemaic: Circa 664-30 B.C.
Very fine condition; complete and intact.
Height 24.2 mms (0.94 ins).
Provenance: Ex London gallery; previously in a 1930's. Home counties UK collection of a lady.

Thoth was the god associated with divine knowledge and writing. He was associated with order and justice and was an advisor as well as a mediator to the gods. The ibis was one manifestation of Thoth, the other being as a baboon.
