A bright blue glazed faience amulet of the god Thoth with the head of an ibis. The god is shown striding forward, hands to his sides and standing on an oblong base. The top of the head extends to form a suspension loop.
Ancient Egyptian Late Dynastic-Ptolemaic period: Circa 664-30 B.C.
Very fine condition; complete and intact.
Height 4.8 cms (1.9 ins).
Provenance: Ex London gallery; previously in a 1930's Home counties UK collection.

Thoth was the god associated with divine knowledge and writing. He was associated with order and justice and was an advisor as well as a mediator to the Gods. The ibis was one manifestation of Thoth, the other being as a baboon.
