A good-sized blue glazed faience amulet of the god, Thoth as an ibis. The god is shown striding forward, hands to his sides and standing on an oblong base, a piercing towards the top of the back pillar for suspension.
Ancient Egyptian Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic: circa 664-30 B.C.
Very fine condition; complete and intact. A few dark accretions in the recesses.
Height 4.9 cms (1.9 ins).
Provenance: Ex London gallery; previously in a 1930's Home counties UK collection.

Thoth was the god associated with divine knowledge and writing. He was associated with order and justice and was an advisor as well as a mediator to the Gods. The ibis was one manifestation of Thoth, the other being as a baboon.
