A good-sized blue glazed faience amulet of the god, Thoth with the head of an ibis. The god is shown striding forward, hands to his sides and standing on an oblong base, a piercing towards the top of the back pillar for suspension.
 
Egyptian Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period: Circa: 664 to 30 BC.
 
Very fine condition; complete and intact. A few dark accretions in the recesses.
Height 5.1 cms (1.9 ins).
 
Provenance: Ex London gallery; previously in a 1930's Home counties UK collection.

Thoth was the god associated with divine knowledge and writing. He was associated with order and justice and was an advisor as well as a mediator to the Gods. The ibis was one manifestation of Thoth, the other being as a baboon.
