Marble Surface

A hardstone greywacke amulet of the Eye of Horus (also known as the wedjat, or udjat), with top unpierced loop. The surface on both sides of the amulet is smooth and unadorned and outlines the typical silhouette, which combines human and falcon ocular imagery. Such an item would not have been worn in life, but more likely would have been tucked into the linen wrappings of a mummy. It may also have been used as a votive offering.

Ptolemaic period: Circa 4th-1st century BC.

Fine condition: complete and intact.

Length 25 mms (1 inch).
