Marble Surface

A very fine Egyptian steatite scarab with a well-executed intricate pattern of scrolls to the base. The moulded obverse is detailed, with particular attention being paid to the head and clypeus. Precise, short incisions form the humeral callosities. The sides of the scarab are adorned with hatchings to create a wreath-like pattern that represent its legs. The reverse features a stylised scroll motif, creating a symmetrical geometric pattern, typical of Hyksos period scarabs. The scarab was pierced longitudinally for suspension, but has since been filled in.
