A carved stone scarab with plain body, the legs folded to the side of the body; pierced for suspension. The underside is carved with hieroglyphs which spell out the throne name (prenomen) of Pharaoh Amenhotep II: 'Akheperure', transcribed as Aa-kheperu-Ra. This would have translated as 'Great are the Manifestations of Ra'.

 

Egyptian 18th Dynasty period: Circa 1427-1401 BC.

 

Condition: Very Fine; complete and intact.

Length 23.3 mms (0.9 ins).

 

Provenance: From the Gustave Mustaki collection, a collector of antiquities who amassed large collection in Alexandria (Egypt) in the early 20th century and his collection came to the UK under Egyptian licence in 1947.
