A solid moulded terracotta model of a naked seated youth, possibly a depiction of the mythological  scene of the infant Herakles strangling the (now missing) snake in his left hand.  The features are finely defined, and he is shown in a reclining position, one arm on his knee, the other arm raised. Supplied with wooden display stand.

 

Ancient Greek, Hellenistic: Circa 3rd to 1st Century BC

 

Fine condition: Repaired on the neck, shoulder and base, some losses around the base.

Size (not including stand): 8.35 x 10.3 cms (3.3 x 4 Ins)

 

Provenance: Ex. collection: Victor Emile Gabriel Chevallier (Paris, France 1889-1969) and Marguerite Jeanne Verel (Paris, France 1887-1962). Thence from 1969 passed through three generations of the same Parisian family by inheritance. A 19th Century numerical collection label on the back.
