A large Greek culture Apulian South Italian Gnathian-ware black glazed oinochoe with a stylized lion's head on the spout. The vessel is decorated around the neck with ivy tendril pattern, and typical grooved patterning around-the belly. The oinochoe has a wide trefoil mouth and single handle. The area just above the foot is reserved.
Apulia, southern Italy: 4th century BC.
Condition: Complete and intact; a few minor bumps and scrapes.
Height 23.5 cms (9.25 ins).
Provenance: Swiss family ownership 1980s-1990s.
