Ancient Roman: Circa 1st-4th century AD.

Very Fine condition generally: right hand missing; solid stable bronze with an attractive light green patination.

Height 7.2 cms (2.8 ins).

Provenance: Ex Kuizenga collection, the Netherlands, formed from the 1970s onwards. Purchased 14th February 1990.

Most likely Fortuna or Abundantia, this type of bronze was commonly placed in a lararium (household shrine) and used in daily or occasional offerings (wine, incense, food). The gesture of the arm suggests interaction - either receiving offerings or bestowing favour.
