A Roman reddish-brown glazed terracotta oil lamp. The discus with a Samnite gladiator in high relief facing right in a fighting stance, wearing crested helmet and holding dagger in right hand, shield in left, filling hole below. Angular voluted nozzle.
Circa 40-80 AD.
Very Fine condition.
Length of lamp 10.2 cms (4 ins).
