An elegant Roman provincial wine flagon, in a pale orange terracotta, extensively covered with grey earthy deposits. The vessel has a rim collar on a tubular neck, with a single ribbed handle extending from the middle of the neck to the shoulders. The body narrows elegantly down to a small ring base and is decorated with shallow ridges.
Ancient Roman Germany: Circa 2nd-3rd century AD.
Condition: In archaeological condition, with a small hole on the shoulders and a small chip to the foot, otherwise complete and intact, with grey earthy accretions over much of the body.
Height: 24.4 cms (9.6 ins).
Provenance: German private collection acquired during the 1990's.
