A figure of a seated female in orange terracotta. She wears a headdress, armbands and a necklace with pendants, the eyes emphasized with deeply etched lines, and decorated from the waist down with etched lines and patterns.

 

Pre-Columbian West Mexico, Colima, early Autlan type: Circa 100 BC to 250 AD.

 

Very Fine condition; complete and intact, with strong fabric.

Height 15 cms (6 ins).

 

Provenance: US. private collection. Ex. Dr. David Harner collection, Arkansas, 1950's - 1960's, collection.

 

Early Autlan figures shared traits and styles with both Jalisco and Colima. Typical is the use of incised features and decoration.
